Christian Concepts in Real Life.
Admit When You’re Not Ok
Prior to giving my life over to the Lord, I had a bad habit of trying to go through things alone – without friends, without family and even without God. I was more scared of how I would be perceived instead of wanting happiness and peace. I hated how being depressed and being sad made me look to others and I hated how I viewed myself because of it. The more I tried to bottle up my pain, the more it destroyed me from the inside out. Before you get to that point, I implore you to admit when you’re not ok.
Talk to Me Nice
Words are powerful. Words can lift someone up or bring someone down. During my battle of depression, I learned the true meaning of “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothing at all.” As Christians, we need to make sure that are words are being used to uplift and speak life into people. I challenge you to use your words to help others, not condemn them
Trauma Warps The Brain
Although going to therapy is increasingly becoming adopted into our self-care, many people still rebuke the idea of therapy. For those who don’t quite understand the importance, think of your favorite or the most outrageous action hero, who falls off buildings, gets shot, gets stabbed and STILL makes it to his destination safely and alive. What if I told you going through life without getting a mental checkup is the equivalent of said action hero?
You’re Still In The Game
Comparison is an ugly thing. It can cause you to doubt yourself or worse, hate yourself. Over the past few months, God has been working on me with revitalizing dreams I thought I laid to rest. As quick as the motivation came was as quick as the enemy came and tried to flood my mind with lies and comparisons. God reminded me that just because you aren’t Steph Curry, it doesn’t mean you aren’t still in the game.
Go To Work
There’s a famous adage that says, “Practice makes perfect.” However, it’s one thing to know that; it’s an entirely different thing to apply that. For years, I had dreams of accomplishing different things, but because the outcome didn’t equate to my perfect vision, I quit prematurely. Over time, the recurrence of this caused me to doubt myself. However, God reminded me that “Faith without works” is dead.
Looking For [Fun] in All The Wrong Places
Depending on the response, nostalgia can be a welcoming feeling or it can be a trap from the enemy. In my case, it was a trap. Thinking about what my life could have been like if I would’ve made different choices caused me to become discontent in the life that God blessed me with. One day, God revealed to me that I was too busy looking back on a life not meant for me instead of looking forward to the one God had for me.
6 Key Strategies for a Successful Year
Before the year 2024 started, God gave me 6 key strategies we needed to have a successful year. God’s Word tells us He has plans to prosper us and not to harm us. Therefore, we should live in that promise and believe that God will support our purpose.
Don’t Be Scared of the Quiet
For years, I didn't like being alone. I filled the emptiness with phone call with friends, hanging out with friends, cramming my head in a book or binging television shows and movies that didn’t bring up the memories I was running from. However, it was one night God made me face the quietness, which ultimately lead to my healing. I encourage you to embrace the quiet and discover what God is trying to show you.
God Got Your Back
The trials and tribulations we face on an everyday basis can sometimes weigh us down to the point we forget that God has our backs. Through this dream, I hope it encourages you and reminds you that God really has our backs, no matter how menacing the situation may be.
The time is now
We all have dreams and aspirations. God has given each of us gifts and talents. However, sometimes, due to negativity the enemy sends our way, it’s hard to have faith and believe in the gifts and dreams God has given us. This blog post serves as encouragement to be all the God has called you to be.
I planned; God protected.
There’s a saying that says, “If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.” Due to the countless times my life has gone the complete opposite of my plans, I’m sure that God has doubled over in laughter. In analyzing my various failed life plans, I discovered that I battle with the spirit of control. I learned that God has already set our course for us, but it’s up to us to follow it. Life is a lot easier when God leads and we follow.
What IF
Oftentimes, we beat ourselves up for mistakes or wrong decisions we made, which leads us going down a rabbit hole of questions of “what ifs?” These questions can cause depression, hopelessness, sadness and a slew of other negative emotions. I’m here to encourage you that God already included your mistakes into His plan. You are exactly where God wants you to be. Just keep trusting and leaning on Him.
Who You’re Around
Have you ever prayed and prayed for a blessing and it seemed like it would never happen? As I reflected over my life, I realized that some of the biggest blessings I received didn't come until my circle changed. Who you’re around matters and sometimes, it is what is keeping you from your blessing.
RelAx Your Feet
The world is always telling us to go, go, go. It says we aren’t grinding enough and we aren’t hustling enough. The world says we should be farther along than we are. Therefore, we push and push until we are so tired that we feel guilty or don’t feel justified to rest. I’m here to tell you that even God rested; therefore, we should too.
You’re God’s Valentine
Valentine’s Day can be a hard day. It can remind you that it’s yet another year of singleness or it can be a day where you covet other’s Valentine’s Day. However, I am here to remind you that today doesn’t need to be a day of sadness or jealousy because you have a Valentine - God. Happy Valentine’s Day, Lovelies!
You Belong With Me
In college, I wanted a relationship so bad that I hated seeing or being around other couples. One of God’s Ten Commandments is to not covet what your neighbors have. Covetousness steals the joy God wants you to have and can evoke negative emotions. As the scripture says, God wants to bless you abundantly, but your abundance may not look like someone else’s abundance.
This is a Story
I’ve always believed that at least some parts of stories from books and television could become reality. I would daydream and fantasize about how my life would be similar to the stories I read and watched. However, as my storybook life derailed to a mundane one, I became sad, depressed and wistful. I had to realize that there is beauty and inspiration in unconventional stories.
Do You Boo Boo
Through therapy, I discovered that I battle with the issue of wanting to controlling others. I want the best for them; therefore, I try to imprint my version of what their best life is. However, my therapist ultimately asked me, “What does that have to do with you?” I had no other rebuttal than “Nothing,” and since it had nothing to do with me, I decided not to let my loved one’s actions continue to negatively impact me. I gave them over to Lord and mentally said, “Do you Boo Boo.”
Live By Faith
We often tell people that we have faith, but do we live by faith? Earlier this year, I became sick and nothing I did helped or worked. I decided to declare and decree that I was healed and a few days later, I felt better. This situation taught me that not only should we have faith, but we should live by faith.
