Welcome to the Real World
For most of my life, I have had an immense fear of death. Not because I thought it would be painful, but because I would think about how many years I would be dead versus being alive. I thought about the world growing and advancing and my progeny living in a world where they never knew I existed. I guess you could say I had a strong case of FOMO.
As my relationship with God strengthens, I think about the brevity of life and the extensiveness of the afterlife. In comparison, the time that we spend in this world versus the time we spend in Heaven or Hell could probably be compared to a water drop and the ocean. The meaning behind preachers saying this world is a dressing room suddenly hit me and reaffirmed a note that I read in my Life Application Bible.
THE ONLY REASON WE ARE HERE IS TO LOVE GOD AND TO LIVE FOR HIM.
That’s it. That’s all. What we decide to do with the precious time He blesses us with is up to us. However, as I mentioned earlier, eternity is a long time compared to several decades.
1 Chronicles 29:13-15 (NLT) says “O our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name! But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you? Everything we have has come from you, and we give you only what you first gave us! We are here for only a moment, visitors and strangers in the land as our ancestors were before us. Our days on earth are like a passing shadow, gone so soon without a trace.” Furthermore, Psalm 90:12 (NLT) says: “Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.”
We love to scream things like YOLO or proclaim that we can do this and that while we are here on this Earth, but what happens after it all ends?
The Bible describes Heaven as a place with many mansions (John 14:2-3), a place that has pearl gates and streets paved of gold (Revelation 21:21) and a place where all of your needs will be met (Revelation 7:15-17). On the other hand, Hell is described as a “lake that burns with fire and sulfur” (Revelation 21:8).
Personally, I choose Heaven. But not just because of the environment of my eternity, but because Heaven is where God is and that’s where I want to be. Because He’s been so generous, so loving, so faithful to us while we’ve been living here, I want to be with Him.
This blog post isn’t to condemn anyone. It’s just simply a post to get you thinking and to allow you to enter my thoughts for a moment. Hopefully, it wasn’t a bad trip lol.
In conclusion, let’s ask ourselves this:
