Speak to Me

Hear ye, hear ye, all you Millennials, Gen Zers and any other age group that may stumble upon this blog post, Life be life’n. Because life be life’n, it is easy to allow the world to beat us up. Past unhealed trauma may resurface. Current events may reopen old traumatic wounds or even create more wounds. We’ll see others excelling in areas where it seems that we just cannot find our footing. As a result, negative thoughts may begin to swirl in our tired minds. Moreover, for those who have become numb to the swirling, our negative emotions morph itself into armor that others can see but we are unaware is visible to others.

 

One negative belief I suffer from is not believing I’m good enough. This one belief has manifested in so many ways. It literally shows up in every relationship I have ever formed. I either try to go over and above to prove myself to people or constantly worry that eventually, the people I want to stay close by will leave me.

 

Per my therapist’s suggestion, I wrote down examples in my life that rebutted my negative beliefs that I’m not good enough, such as graduating with my Master’s and hearing my loved ones say they’re proud of me. From that, I created affirmations that reminded me that I am good enough and that I am human. Let me tell you something! When spoken and allowed to seep into your pores on a regular basis or whenever negative thoughts plague your mind, affirmations can make all the difference.

Philippians 4:8 (NIV) says: “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.”

 

What is true, what is noble, what is right, what is pure, what is lovely and what is admirable is knowing that you are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). It’s knowing that God made you enough. It’s knowing that God made you worthy. It’s knowing that you don’t have to be like anyone else; God made you your own person. It’s knowing that you don’t have to perform in a certain way or say anything in a certain way to receive God’s love; it’s there unconditionally.

 

The devil will try any and everything in his power to make you feel and think the opposite. Remind yourself of God’s word. Remind yourself of what God has told and promised you. Ask God for the words that you need to hear. Write those words down and repeat them often.


It’s hard to believe God loves us when we refuse to see the best in ourselves. Affirmations can help shine light in that dark tunnel of your mind.

 

Speak to yourself the way God speaks to you and watch your world change.
